"Modern literature testifies to a sort of rage directed against the world which no longer seems the work of a wise clockmaker. The humor of that literature, if it is humor at all, is a sneer, a snigger, thrown in the face of the universe."
-  Czeslaw Milosz

Justice, Religion, Marriage, Order, Wishes

Are nothing more than a Hug

What is justice? What do we want it to be? Comfort? An apology from god? A nod from the lawyers and the laws meant to protect us? A hug from at least one person who really, you know, “Gets us”?

We know that the best thing we can do to live a happy (well happily ignorant) life is to keep our heads down. We feed our psychological need for safety and order with any lie that is easy enough to believe. We try and try and try to accept that we are doing right. That the mythical clock is running. That god and the police and love are thinking of us always. Of our safety. Of our happiness. Of our eternity. And all we have to do is wish for happiness and it will come true.

To hell with nihilism, we’re bokonists: Life is formed entirely of lies; but if we believe and adhere to these lies, we will live a happy life.

And good for us! Look how calm and happy we are? None of us have anxiety. None of us worry about the afterlife. None of need two valium just to get through the day. PERFECTION!!! BLISS!!!

But what happens when a person begins to question the lies? What happens when someone realizes that the alternative to the lies is a beating? My god… They’d probably go insane… They’d feel like a prisoner in our perfect world! Surely they have to come back to lies! They can’t live out there alone!

Welcome to Sequestered. It’s only an hour long… So your liquor won’t have time to wear off.
